Margaret M. McInnis and Nicholas P.
Rubando were married on Saturday, August 22, 2026, in the
bride’s hometown of Madison, Wisconsin, surrounded by
family and friends. Their love story began several years earlier
in Nicholas’ hometown of Toledo, Ohio, where a shared
commitment to public service first brought their paths together.
Nicholas, a Toledo-area native, had
returned home after eight years in Los Angeles and became active
in community politics and ran for congress. Margaret, a Madison
native, moved to Washington, D.C., for graduate school before
joining the staff of Toledo Congresswoman Marcy Kaptur. Margaret
was visiting Toledo and Nicholas was running for Bowling Green
City Council, when they exchanged messages to connect. A casual
drink at The Attic turned into dinner, and before long, visits
between Ohio and Washington grew into a long-distance
relationship.
After Nicholas won his seat on Bowling
Green City Council, he asked Margaret to be his girlfriend before
the city’s holiday parade. They spent the next two years
traveling between Ohio and Washington before Nicholas moved to DC
to be closer to family and his love. Nicholas later proposed on
Christmas Eve during a trip with Margaret’s parents. Nearly
five years after connecting in Northwest Ohio, the couple
returned to Margaret’s hometown to exchange vows and begin
their next chapter as husband and wife.
